Thank you for visiting Midwest Rural Living. My name is Chris and I have lived on the family farm in Illinois all of my life. My wife Annette and I live in my grandparent’s old house with our two children Colt and Piper. Next door to us is my parent’s house, which is the same house I grew up in.
I really have not thought of our country lifestyle as unique until I shared with my co-workers when they asked me what I had done that weekend. While they were watching a game on television I had been working on the farm in the field, repairing equipment, or cutting down trees to saw up for lumber or firewood. It was at that time I realized that the extent of what some people know about country life is what they have seen on television, which is often stereotypical and inaccurate. I would like to share my knowledge and experiences with you to show what it is really like living the rural life. I hope you will see how important rural dwellers are to the rest of the country because of what we provide in the way of crops, meat, and raw materials such as gravel, soil, and timber.
It is my hope to inspire you to go out and build something in your workshop and take pride in what you made. Maybe go out and see what it is like to grow something for you and your family. Possibly you will find a new appreciation for the beauty in God’s creation, the great outdoors.
